Update at 6pm
Dear Parents and Carers,
As a result of the update by the Prime Minister this evening, I am writing to inform you of a change to the absence procedures from tomorrow Tuesday 17th March.
If there is anyone in your household who displays the symptoms of a temperature of 37.8◦ or higher or a dry cough, they must now stay off for 14 days from the onset of the illness. This means all siblings of children who are already absent with these symptoms cannot come into school for 14 days.
As I am sure you can appreciate this is a very difficult time for us as a school, but also as an employer. Our staff are very vulnerable as they work with such a large number of children and families. I would ask you only to come into school or speak to staff on the door if it is very important. Our staff have families who may become ill or they may be ill and have to isolate for the same 14 days. This is going to really stretch our capacity to teach and so we ask you to be understanding with us. We already have staff who are poorly or vulnerable and we are trying to cover their absence without too much disruption.
Please leave any absence messages on the phone line with details of symptoms. If the answer machine is full, please email us firstname.lastname@example.org or ring after 8.45am when the phone will be manned as we are short staffed in the office at the moment.
I will be on the playground as usual before school tomorrow. I do not anticipate any further updates from the Department for Education until later in the day and will let you know as soon as I do.
Mrs Claire Harrison
