Friday 3rd April 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of one of the most difficult terms in education in living memory, I just want to say a few thank yous and wish you all a happy and safe Easter.
I would firstly like to thank all the staff at Deighton Gates. They have gone above and beyond over the last few weeks, making sure that our children have got access to educational and emotional support. Teachers have been planning activities that are meaningful and achievable and Support Staff have been reaching out to each child to check in and see how they are doing. Admin, IT and cleaning staff have also being playing a major part behind the scenes keeping us open as long as we did and now that we are supporting the children of key workers. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated team!
A big thank you must go to you as parents who have been so supportive of the decisions that we have made in the light of a rapidly changing set of circumstances. The messages of support have been appreciated more than you will ever know. We aim to give you as much information as we can to help you to plan. Thank you for the pictures and comments you have sent in to the year group emails. We will be blogging some pictures after Easter and printing them off in school.
We have thought carefully about the time that you have with your children at home and don’t want to add to the pressure by calling it home schooling. The activities that are on the website are suggestions, as I have said before. They are not a prescriptive timetable. My guess is that we are in this for the long haul. As teachers we will look at how we catch up with the curriculum once we know when we will be back in school. This will be the same across the country and I don’t want anyone losing sleep over it now.
There will not be any work updated from today on the websites for the duration of the Easter holidays as the teachers take a break with their families. Support staff will be back in touch after the Easter break too, but will not be available to respond for the next 2 weeks. I would ask you not to contact staff now until we return on 20th April, unless it is a safeguarding issue which should be addressed to the email@example.com address. I will check this during the holiday but will not responding unless it is urgent.
One of the latest links we have received for literacy links can be found here: https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/
Child care will continue during the holidays for those parents who have already booked in with me. Those parents can access the staff account if their requirements change or a child is ill and not attending.
My final thank you is for our children. In the last days of school, I visited all classes and spoke to children about their worries and questions. I was amazed at their resilience and understanding. I was humbled by their compassion for others. I can’t be prouder of our school community than I am now.
Please keep each other safe,
