Friday 11th September 2020 Letter from Mrs Harrison

Friday 11th September 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for adapting to the new routines so readily this week and making our first few days back such a success. The children have been fantastic. They have worked hard, are getting back into the swing of things and we think a few will be glad of the lie-in tomorrow!

Next week we will be sending out details of a parent catch up with your child’s class teacher. These are for parents who want to have a quick chat about how their child has managed over the last few months and how lock down has been for you as a family. It is too early in the term for teachers to feedback on progress. We are here to listen on this occasion! Obviously, we cannot hold meetings in school, so we will be doing them over zoom. You will be able to book them online as we normally do and they will be strictly limited to 10 minutes so that we can offer them to everyone who wants one. The times have been chosen by staff to fit around their own work and family lives and we are very grateful for them giving time up to do this so early in the term when the workload pressures are higher than they have ever been. We are unable to fit them around family work patterns so please book early to have a choice of times. The meetings are not compulsory and we do not expect that everyone will want one. They are there if you do. We will let you know when they are going “live”.

From Monday you will see the new drop off and collection areas that have been designated for Reception. Please can families passing through the Reception playground, keep to the right. Please remember that all Reception parents need to use the Reception gate in the one way system. Staff will be on hand to help.

The social distancing through the site has been great. Please can we remind you that if you are waiting for the gates to open, that you line up 2m apart as you would outside a supermarket and keep your children with you. We know it is a chance for chat (parents and children!) but mixing so closely will undo all the hard work we are doing in school and will result in cross contamination of the bubbles and increase the risk of us having to close part or all of the school.

Please can we also ask that where possible, you avoid medical and dental appointments during school hours. If it is unavoidable, please only return your child to school for the next registration session: either 12.45pm for Reception Years 1,2, 3 or 1.15pm for Years 4,5 and 6 or the next morning. We are unable to take children in between these times.

Well, this seems to have been one of the longest weeks of my life! I guess I have been planning for it since March 20th when we closed to most pupils. I am proud of how together staff, parents and children have made it a success. My main objective was to get us all back together safely this week. I am hoping to be able to think about other things than one-way systems next week. Thank you for your continued support and words of encouragement. It goes a long way!

Best wishes

Mrs Harrison
