Dear Parents and Carers,
I’m sure like me, many of you will have watched the Prime minister’s address last night and I know that you will be wanting updates on what is happening in schools. It was indicated that the Government believes it may be in a position to implement a phased reopening of schools from 1 June starting with pupils in reception, year 1 and year 6.
Let’s be clear, all of us want to get more pupils back into school as soon as it is safe to do. Our staff have devoted their lives and careers to the care and education of children – they do not want to see classrooms empty for a day longer than they need to be.
However, as any school leader will tell you, the first priority has to be the safety of everyone in the school community. As of last evening, we are still waiting for a clear explanation of how we can keep everyone safe. The plan needs to practicable and manageable.
In the coming days, our priorities will include gaining a better understanding of the government’s plan and listening to advice from the Local Authority.
At this moment, I have no more idea of how this will work in practice than you. In the meantime, however, nothing has changed and I will provide further information in the coming days and weeks once we are able to do so.
Work continues behind the scenes at school and I am pleased that we are now able to provide a draft of the Primary Relationships and Sex Education Policy and Guidance that becomes a statutory requirement from September 2020. See the website: https://www.deightongates.leeds.sch.uk/policies/ This is not a big change for us as we have always had this as part of our broad and balanced curriculum. However, please take a look at the draft policy on the website. If you want to comment, please do so at email@example.com before Friday 22nd May 2020. Any comments will be considered by Governors before it is ratified ready for September.
Finally, thank you to Tyrelle and Jack who have sent the first pictures in on them with outstretched arms. We shall be putting them up shortly! Let’s see how many we can get!
Thank you once again for your continued support. You know where we are if you need anything at all,
