Letter from Mrs Harrison 30/06/2020

Tuesday 30th June 2020

Dear Parents,

I had been hoping to write to you today about our plans for September but sadly June has now passed with no further updates from the Government. I am very sympathetic to the issue of planning for 10 weeks in advance when we think about where we were 10 weeks ago but, like you, we are keen to make plans so that we all know what to expect.

Early indications are that the children will return in full class bubbles with many of the restrictions that we have in place for our present, smaller bubbles. These include: staff not being able to mix with other groups of children other than their allocated bubble; staggered start and finish times; meals in classrooms; restrictions on the numbers of people on site; closure on Friday afternoons to allow for statutory planning, preparation and assessment (PPA); and rigorous hygiene measures. Watch out for the outside sinks that Mr Bilton will be fitting shortly!

We have started to think about how these requirements can work practically for school and families whilst maintaining the vital control measures to keep our children and staff safe. One of our considerations will be how to manage greater numbers of parents and children in the mornings and at pick up as well as trying to synchronise timings for families with siblings – a logistical nightmare! The reintroduction of lockdown in Leicester serves as an illustration of how easily things can change and how the threat of COVID is still very much here even if the pubs are open!

As we move into July, we will be starting our transition meetings. Teachers will be sending out a video this week to introduce themselves as your child’s new teacher – so watch out for that! Please can you drop a line to your present class teacher about whether or not you will be attending the transition meetings that I detailed last week. This will only work if we have a clear handle on numbers for the risk assessment. Please can I remind you to stick to allocated times and to socially distance when arriving and leaving as well as when you are on site.

In the meantime, I am off to do a Costco order for more disinfectant. Who said being a Head Teacher wasn’t glamourous!

Best wishes

Mrs Claire Harrison
