Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you had a pleasant weekend, the sunshine certainly helps! Please find attached with this letter, a simple flow-chart of the processes should you find in the position of having children that are showing symptoms of Covid-19. There are also some frequently asked questions that we will continue to add to. They will be updated on the website. These symptoms include a temperature, a new and persistent cough or a loss of smell/taste. Whilst we know that children may have other symptoms of sickness, runny noses and other childhood illnesses it is important that if they have a temperature or cough, they get a test. This is the advice of Public Health England and by following their advice, we hope to limit the risk of infection in school. I know I keep saying it, but it is only by following these rules, we can increase the chances of staying open.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us by keeping in touch with us and getting their children tested. It will happen to us all at some point, I imagine!
The last week has been extremely challenging in school, making sure that our systems run smoothly and safely. I think we are pretty much there with drop offs and collections – so thank you for that. Yesterday we had a successful run through of Years 1 2 and 3 in the hall for lunch. The bubbles are socially distanced and we managed to get them through ready for when the second sitting would be due to arrive. We intend to trial that by the end of the week. It does seem a shame that the whole school isn’t able to sit out to eat in the sunshine but I don’t want to have to do it on the first wet or cold day and have mayhem! Reception children will be eating in the other hall to start with.
If you require a Zoom meeting with staff to have a catch up with your child’s class teacher, please see the slots that will be available below. You will need to book them online via the Parents Evening System which will be available from 6pm this evening: https://deightongates.schoolcloud.co.uk/. Once you have booked in, we will send you details of how to connect. I am asking you to bear with us and be patient at this time, as the technology is new to us. We will have to stick to the 10 minute slots. If your child has settled happily and you do not need a meeting, then please do not feel obliged to book.
Please note that this is not for new Reception parents as it is a catch up about last term.

We will be reopening our class emails shortly as we prepare our remote learning offer. This will be for children who are in a bubble that has had to collapse and the children are isolating. We will also be looking at how we support children who are waiting for test results. At the moment, the waiting time is unacceptably long and not what we were promised in the reopening guidance. If you are struggling to get a test, please do let us know and we will see if we can help.
Thank you also for the requests for face coverings. We had been hoping to order/donate via School Money but this has proved problematic. I know it is old school, but if you would like to make a donation to Sue’s flower fundraising or order a face mask, please put a cash donation in an envelope with your child’s name and class, the amount of donation and the number of masks requested and send it in your child’s bag. We will collect them and then quarantine them for 72 hours as we are doing with the reading books. Please remind children to hand them in!
